Children’s Eye Examination
Your child’s vision is extremely important – regular eye exams will
ensure they aren’t struggling to see clearly
When you’re young, the world is your oyster; you want to be playing with your friends, climbing trees and inventing imaginary worlds, not spending time in an optician’s chair. However, regular eye examinations are essential for youngsters, to ensure their eyes and vision stay healthy. So we have devised fun and exciting tests for your little one to keep them entertained while they’re in practice.
It is a common misconception that children have to be able to read before they have their first eye test, but in fact this isn’t the case. We can test the eyes of children as young as one year old, using a combination of shapes and colours to track their eye movements. Many vision or eye conditions can be corrected if detected before the age of eight, so it’s really important to take your little one to the optician every year.
Poor eyesight may not just be a hindrance in your child’s home life, but could have a serious effect on their education too. Research has shown that 80% of a child’s learning occurs visually. If they can’t see the board in class, or struggle to
read clearly, they can easily become frustrated, embarrassed and ultimately disengaged with learning altogether.
Remember that your child only knows about their own experience of the world and may not realise that their vision isn’t ‘normal,’ so you can’t rely on them to let you know if they have a problem. In fact, research suggests that no less than one in five school children have an undetected problem with their vision. Regular eye examinations are crucial for accurately identifying any difficulties and establishing an effective solution.
If your child does need eyewear following their eye exam, they’re in for a treat. We have a great range of frames specifically designed with children in mind, including stylish and exciting brands with soft nose pads for extra comfort and sprung hinges to reduce the chances of breakages. We can even supply your child with contact lenses, providing they are mature enough to take care of them properly.
